Chassis:
Through Belgian distributor d’Ieteren, this 550 RS Spyder was delivered new to the Équipe Nationale Belge. This was the Belgian national racing team, so the car was accordingly painted in a distinct yellow. It was raced by choice of Belgian gentleman racers and also a lady, Gilberte Thirion. Chassis 0082 notably placed third in the Reims 1000 km in 1956 and then in 1957 became one of just 10 550 Spyders to be raced at Le Mans. Following its international racing career, the Porsche continued to be raced in local hill climbs and other events. At some point, it was fitted with an Apal Coupe body and a two-litre engine and it competed in this guise for several more years. By 1970, it was placed into long-term storage, until it was acquired by Corrado Cupellini in March of 1989. The body and incorrect engine were removed to restore the 550 to its correct Spyder configuration. Shortly before the restoration was complete, the Porsche was sold to Germany, In the early 2000s, it was restored more comprehensively and a period correct Carrera engine and gearbox were fitted. It was initially painted silver like so many of the other 550 Spyders but in more recent years was re-finished in the correct Belgian racing colour of yellow. In 2024, it was consigned to the Bonhams Zoute sale as one of the headliners.
