Chassis:
Commissioned by Sicilian nobleman Gaetano Starrabba di Giardinelli, this A6GCS/53 was delivered new in March of 1955. He applied a yellow triangle on the nose to distinguish the car from the other A6GCS/53s competing. Chassis 2085 was first raced on the Prince’s home turf, in the 1955 Giro di Sicilia. He continued to campaign the car for the remainder of the year, mainly on the Italian mainland. Having switched to a newer Ferrari for 1956, Starrabba sold the Maserati to fellow Italian Erasmo Simeoni. He raced the car in local hill-climbs until he suffered a fatal accident behind the wheel of a Ferrari 250 GT. From his estate, chassis 2085 was sold to Germany where it would remain for many years. In 1974, it joined the collection of Baron Kurt von Hammerstein who first entered the car in historic events. He would race the car for seven years and it then joined Peter Kaus’ Rosso Bianco collection. Having been displayed for many years, it was sold to another German historic racer, Wolf-Dieter Baumann. From 2003, it has been raced at select events by Baumann and the next custodians. Part of the collection of a Spanish historic racer since 2012, it was offered for sale by Fiskens during the fall of 2024.
