Chassis:
One of a pair earmarked to two French friends, this A6GCS/53 was sold new to Armand Roboly and painted in a light shade of French racing blue. Roboly raced the car extensively during the 1954 season with a second place finish in the Coupe d’Automne. Before the next racing season, it was sold to André Loëns, who was a Frenchman based in Southampton. He first raced the car in the 1955 Goodwood Easter Meeting where he finished sixth overall. Sharing with Joakim Bonnier, Loëns finished first in class in the Tourist Trophy. He also scored outright wins in the 1955 Stockhomsloppet, the 1956 Can d’Escalle Hillclimb and the 1956 Roskilde Ring. Loëns his last appearance with the car came at Eläintarhanajo in May of 1957. He sadly passed away later that year behind the wheel of a brand new Maserati 200S. It appears that by that time chassis 2065 had been returned to the factory, perhaps in part exchange for the 200S. By 1998, it was being restored by a specialist in Reggio Emilia who was issued a copy of the build-sheet by Maserati Vendite. The work was completed in 2001 and the car was sold to a German collector. Before it was acquired by the current custodian, it also spent time in Australian hands. Regularly campaigned by the long-term owner in the Mille Miglia retrospective. Equipped with a freshly rebuilt engine, it was consigned to RM Sotheby’s early in 2025 as a private treaty offering.
