Chassis:
One of three 1996 specification F1 GTRs sold to BMW Motorsport, this example was run on behalf of the German manufacturer by Team Bigazzi SRL. It was first seen at the Le Mans Pre-Qualifying where Johnny Cecotto set the 7th time in the GT1 class. Finished in the works Fina colours with a British flag integrated in the design, it was then raced at the Silverstone BPR round by Jacques Laffite and Marc Duez. They finished 11th overall and tenth in the GT1 class. For the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the two were joined by Steve Soper. They lined up in sixth for the race but finished a delayed 11th overall and 9th in class. Subsequently sold off, it was later owned by Ray Bellm and then spent time in Australia before it was repatriated to the United Kingdom. At some point, it was painted ‘papaya’ orange and converted for road use by marque specialists Lanzante. During the mid-2010s, a subsequent owner had the car restored to its Le Mans livery. Since then, it has made regular appearances, first at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting and later at the Retromobile stands of brokers Kidston and Joe Macari. In 2025, it was demonstrated at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the career of Gordon Murray was celebrated.
