Chassis:
All five S1 LM chassis were commissioned by Gordon Murray Special Vehicles by a single customer. They had no intention of keeping more than one and three were sold on to interested parties and there was so much interest for the first chassis that it was decided to consign the final S1 LM available to RM Sotheby’s for a dedicated auction in Las Vegas. With the car still under development, the winning bidder would be able to finish S1 LM to their exact specification. The Anglo-Canadian auctioneer had high hopes for the sale with a $20 million estimate, which was more than warranted as the S1 LM with serial number sold for $20.6 million. This was a new world record for a brand new car sold in a regular auction.
