Chassis:
Displayed at the 1951 Geneva and Turin Motor Shows, this 212 Export was clothed with a Barchetta body by Vignale. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, the Vignale bodywork featured a strikingly low front windscreen and was originally finished in a dark two-tone livery. No colour photographs of the car’s early exist, so the exact colours used remain unknown. The car captured the attention of movie director Roberto Rosselini and it became the first of many Ferraris he would own. Delivered new to him in Rome, chassis 0076E would remain with Rossilini until 1953, when it passed to a movie executive. Through Luigi Chinetti, it was imported into the United States well over a decade later. Among the subsequent owners was noted Ferrari collector Norman Silver. In 1982, it joined the collection of another prominent Ferrari enthusiast. In the next four decades, it lived a pampered but secluded life until it was consigned in very original condition to the 2026 Gooding Christie’s Amelia Island Auctions.
