Clothed by Vignale with Spyder bodywork, this red 225 Sport was a works entry in the 1952 Mille Miglia for Piero Scotti and Giulio Cantini. It sadly failed to finish was sold almost immediately thereafter to American Tom Cole. It was appropriately re-painted dark blue with a white engine cover and rear deck lid. Cole raced the car extensively in Europe at events like the Targa Florio and the Goodwood 9 Hours. He sadly passed away at Le Mans in 1953 and this car passed to his brother Tom Cole, who lived in the United Kingdom. He would continue to own the car into the 1960s and it remained on the British Isles until 1977, when it joined the collection of Peter Sachs. Little over a decade later, it was acquired by another prominent American collector. It remained in his stable for close to four decades until it was consigned to the 2026 Goodwood Christie’s Pebble Beach Auctions with several other cars from the same collection.
