Chassis:
The second of two Porsche 936s built in 1976, chassis 936002 was driven to a debut victory in the Trofeo Filippo Caracciola at Monza. With wins at Imola, Enna Pergusa, the Salzburgring and most importantly Le Mans, it was by far the most successful of the two that season. In the following two years, chassis 002 was only raced at Le Mans with a 3rd in 1978 as the best result. It was the first 936 to be withdrawn from active duty and it soon found its way into the factory museum. Still in twin-turbo configuration, it was restored to 1977 specification and confusingly liveried like that year's Le Mans winner (001). In this guise, it is seen here at the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it was driven up the hill by Australian Le Mans winner Vern Schuppan.
