Chassis:
One of the 1996 specification McLaren F1 GTRs, chassis 12R was used extensively by the Gulf Racing / GTC team for Ray Bellm and James Weaver. The two men scored four victories in this car on their way to the 1996 BPR championship. For Le Mans they were joined by 1995 winner J.J. Lehto. Gearbox problems on Sunday morning delayed the team considerably after running as high as 3rd overall and 2nd in class. The Gulf liveried machine eventually crossed the line in 8th. Bellm used the car the following year to drive to Le Mans where a 1997-spec McLaren awaited him for the race. Still road legal, it is seen here at the 2009 Modena Trackdays where it was exercised by its current American owner. Over a decade later, it was demonstrated by McLaren on behalf of the owner at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
