Chassis:
Chassis 0008/55 was the second of two 300 SLR Coupes completed in the Summer of 1955. It was supposedly built to compete in that year's edition of the grueling Carrera Panamericana road race through Mexico. After the Le Mans tragedy, the race was cancelled, never to be run again. As a result chassis 0008/55 was not used in an official capacity. In recent years, it has been displayed at numerous events. For 2010 the car was brought back to full running order. During the following years, it was regularly demonstrated at events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed. In 2022, Mercedes-Benz together with specialists RM Sotheby's hosted a select number of collectors for a dedicated auction and sold the second SLR Coupe for a record smashing €135 million. All proceeds were used to establish the Mercedes-Benz educational fund.
