Chassis:
Sold new to Bill Spear, this is the only open 340 Mexico produced and also the only one that did not compete in the Carrera Panamericana in 1952. Throughout the 1953 season it was raced with considerable success by Spear with Phil Hill as his co-driver in the longer events. It subsequently passed through the hands of Briggs Cunningham and was briefly raced again in 1955. Fittingly, it was acquired in 1987 by Mexican collector, the late Lorenzo Zambrano. He had the car finished in the original colours of blue with a white engine cover and rear deck. He sold the car on to the current custodian, who has had it re-painted red to match the rest of his collection.
