Chassis:
Featured is a 1952 212 Inter, which like most of this series Inters was fitted with a Vignale coupe body. Very early in its history, the 212 engine was replaced by the factory with the more powerful 225 V12, displacing just over 2.7 litre. Its first owner, Ferrari representitive and racing driver, Franco Cornacchia drove it to a victory in the prestigious Coppa Intereuropa at Monza in 1953. At the end of the decade the car was sold to the United States, not to return to Italy until the mid 1980s. While in America, the original engine was replaced by a similar unit from a sister car.
After an ownership of nearly two decades the prominent Italian collector decided to offer his Inter in the 2005 edition of the annual Bonhams Ferrari Sale. In his years with '0237 EU', he competed in the Mille Miglia retrospective no fewer than nine times. In the highly successful auction the Coppa Intereuropa winning car changed hands for CHF 502,974 or $ 389,805 USD.
