Chassis:
Completed halfway through 1938, chassis 3032 was the final of three 8CTFs construct. It was raced twice by Freddie Zehender with little success before being sold to Mike Boyle. He entered the car as the 'Boyle Valve Special' in the 1939 Indy 500 for Wilbur Shaw. He would go on to win the race and became the first driver to score back-to-back victories in the same car. Shaw was close to making it three in a row until a wheel failed. The Maserati's remarkable run continued after the War with two thirds and a fourth in the hands of Ted Horn. Its final appearance at the 'Brickyard' came in 1950 when Bill Vukovich failed to qualify the car.
The eight-time veteran and two-time winner of the Indy 500 was appropriately acquired by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in later years. Chassis 3032 has been restored to the 'Boyle Valve Special' configuration it scored its two victories in. In 2010 the fabulous Maserati was brought to Europe for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It was driven up the hill by among others Bobby Unser, Emmanuele Pirro and Jochen Mass.
