Chassis: 3030
Chassis 3030 started life in 1938 as a Maserati works racer, piloted with little success by Achille Varzi and Luigi Villoresi. Together with one of the other two 8CTFs, it was sold to well known privateers Laury Schell & Lucy O'Reilly. It was entered for Rene Dreyfus in the Swiss Grand Prix and in the following year in the Indy 500 where he placed 10th. The car was subsequently sold and entered in the 500-mile race four more times but with little success. After its contemporary career chassis 3030 remained in the United States with the exception of a brief spell in English ownership during the 1990s and early 2000s. Restored to its 1940 Indy 500 specification, it is seen here at the 2007 Monterey Historic Automobile Races in the hands of Martin Walford on behalf of the current owner.
