Chassis:
Featured is one of the very last Inters produced and the very last Touring Barchetta. It was delivered new to Henry Ford in 1952 and was equipped with some very special features. The most important of these is the factory installed 225 2.7 litre engine, which usually powered Ferrari's customer racers. The exterior was 'Americanized' with white wall tires and exhausts mounted in the rear fender. Ford's designers used it as one of the inspiration sources for the Thunderbird of 1955.
Completely original, and with only 13,000 miles on the odometer, it was purchased by the Petersen Automotive Museum early in 2005. Before being added to the museum's permanent collection it was shown at the Concorso d'Italia, which is part of the Meadowbrook Concours d'Elegance. This was the car's first public outing in many years and it was immediately awarded with various prices including the prestigious 'Best of Show'.
