Chassis:
This was the first of three M1Bs built by McLaren themselves during the 1966 season. It was allocated to Chris Amon for the inaugural Canadian-American Challenge Cup. Especially early in the six-race series Amon was competitive with a third and second place finish. It was then sold to Canadian Eustache Soucy, who entered the ex-works M1B in the national championship for Ross de St Croix. On his way to the championship, he won at Mosport, Shepard, St. Jovite and Westwood. This was the first championship ever won by a McLaren. Soucy then entered chassis 1-66 in Can-Am for Mike Spence, who placed third at Mosport and Las Vegas and fifth at Riverside. The car continued to be campaigned for another four seasons by various owners and was later also used in historic events. A comprehensive restoration was started in 1986 but was not completed until after the M1B was bought by John Sabourin and McLaren Automotive's chief development driver Chris Goodwin in 2011. It has since been a regular at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival Meeting. Goodwin won the Whitsun Trophy for big banger sports racers in 1-66 at the 2014 Goodwood Revival.
