Chassis:
One of five 212 Inters bodied by Touring with very elegant 'Berlinetta' coachwork, this example was sold new to La Biscina S.p.A. of Gubbio. Returned to the factory late in 1952, it was fitted with modified suspension and more potent triple Webers. Although the records show, the car was subsequently sold, it remained at Ferrari. The 212 Inter then passed into the hands of future Ferrari works driver Mike Hawthorn, who primarily bought it is a long distance touring car but also used it in practice for the 1953 Mille Miglia.
Made famous in England by a September 1953 article in Motor Sport Magazine, it would pass through various British hands before it followed many of its sister cars to the United States in 1970. It resurfaced in the early 2000s when it was completely restored to its original blue colours. Chassis 0143E has since been sporadically shown at various events, winning several prestigious awards. Fully certified by Ferrari, it will now by offered at Gooding's 2012 Amelia Island sale. The pre-sale estimate for the ex-Mike Hawthorn 212 Inter is $ 1.3 - 1.6 million.
