I thought there were four 290 MM made: Chassis #0606, 0616, 0626 & 0628 The last three survived to this day. #616 was driven by Rio Negri at the 500 km of Interlagos in Brazil, 08-Dec-62. Negri died when he crashed after having mistaken the centre throttle for the brake while entering a corner. The car was burned to a crisp, with few remains left. Remains were sold to Camilo Christofaro, Sao Paulo, who used the bits (partial chassis, suspension, transaxle) to build a Ford V-8 "Speciale" and campaigned it through the 1960's. |
