| The New XJ |
| Jonboy 15-11-2003 |
"It seems the styling of every new Jaguar causes controversy; in fairness though, Jaguar would be cursed to high Hell if this new car looked any different. All the traditionalists would be parading burning Ford effigies... Personally, I think the Jaguar's interior is the best of any car in this class. I like the hand stitched leather on the centre console and tastefully coloured wood. It looks so tactile. You could eat off of it. Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes Benz and even the Maybach favour grey plastics, grey leather and glossy wood, which always also looks like plastic to me. If you favour this kind of chintz, you may as well save your money and buy a Toyota Camry. Incidentally, many journalists criticised the latest S Class (W230) when it first appeared a few years ago, for having a low quality interior. MB have their act together now though. Despite what has been said below in another entry from a fellow anorak, the only complaints I've heard concerning ride quality are at low speeds, because of the new air suspension, a current, ill-proven fad amongst big cars. Have a ride in a past XJ and find yourself nodding in agreement. For years, Jaguar had a repution for making cars with an excellent balance between ride and handling. Then they had a reputation for building cars that fell apart, but they still rode and handled brilliantly. Rule of thumb seems to be this though; luxury saloons are mainly bought by older drivers, who will stick with one marque for years. I'm English, so when the numbers come up I'll buy the Jaguar." |

The thing beautiful about this car is that it has the traditional graceful Jaguar look... and another wonderful thing is that it has an aluminium body. Good, a lightweight luxury car that goes head to head with the Germans in 7-Series form from BMW and S-Class form from Mercedes-Benz. Doesn't that means great handling? Yes, with a ride better than the 7-Series and every bit as good as the S-Class on the straights, except through bends where-by mid-corner bumps catch the car out of its line. THis car is surprisingly spacious, with even more headroom than the S-Class, but slightly less legroom than the LWB S-Class. A recent comparison between XJ6 and S350 had a verdict with the S-Class as the winner, but with the Jaguar running close. I should say, it's a fine effort from Ford and Jaguar, though i say the aged look of the interior traditional of Jaguar cars will mean that this car will limit itself to very few potential buyers. |

Even though I love the XJR, if I were in the market for a Jaguar I would instead get an S-Type R. It just seems a better car, more modern, and I prefer the styling over this. |

Is meant to add character to this car, to remind you of it's Olde-world charms.Like the maserati Clock. As for the car, It ain't exactly a revoulution, innit? We'vve seen the two extremities of the Luxury car marketplace in both technology and style, This and the BMW 7-Series. two opposites, both really ugly and/or boring. now, from Lexus, the middle ground perhaps... |

This car is just so complete in every way. It has been adapted in length, width and height to allow for extra shoulder, head and leg room. This was the old XJ's main problem, and many reviews picked up on it quickly. The designer has done a great job in transforming the overall shape into a modern-day interpritation of what a jaguar should look like. It has flair, style and panache. I like the way the boot line cuts off at the back, and just falls down to the rear bumper. The new colour combinations look interesting and there are now more options than ever, including rear headrest T.V's. I was one of the first people from the public to recieve the press pack which the magazines and newspapers got to write their reviews. It gives detailed descriptions of the construction and features of the car. It impressed me so much, I can't wait to see one at the motorshow and then on the road later this winter. |

getting a bit old. My friend's father bought a XJ6 in 1990(already sold) and that car had the J-gate except it wwas 4 speed. I think jag should change their gearbox to either a +/- steptronic or a tiptronic but keep the automatic gearbox. Anyway they have got a six speed. Nice jag though!! |

I have owned an XJR since 1998 and waited for years for the replacement. My XJR is the best car I have ever had the pleasure of owning and I have owned other XJ's and XKE's and Ferrari's. The new XJ is a cope out FoMoCo obviously would not allocate enough money to give us serious Jaguar owners what Jaguar wanted. I now must leave the Jaguar family for other brands and I really didnt want to. |
| New XJR?? |

Could one actually say that this is a new Jag? I think it just looks like a face-lift of the older version. Why make a new car that looks like the old one?? What a waste... |
| Ok car but doesn't rock as much as the S-type |
| makemoney 17-9-2002 |
Jaguar tried with this baby but the chassis design is not as attractive as the S-type. Interior is not bad for a luxury sedan. Engine is cool. If I had enough money to but the XJR, I wouldn't. I would go for an S-type jaguar. |
