I have no idea why Ferrari would replace the F 40 to begin with. The F 40 is by far my favorite car. I just to race top speed all over Houston in my old Integra back in early 90's. my buddy, who owned a Corrado, and i would invariably park in front of the Ferrari shop on 59 South and stare at the F 40. It's the most beautiful machine I've ever seen. The bulldog-like stance almost reminded me of the Mustangs of the time, which I thought was bold and aggressive styling. And, with a engine displacement of less than 3 liters that had the performance stats it has is just amazing. I enjoyed more than a few trips to the dealership to just check it out and cry about the $400,000 price tag. Someone in my neighborhood owned one as well. Ah, what an amazing sight. I don't mean to knock the F 50, but when it came out, I was and remain unimpressed. I'd much rather own and drive the beast that is the Ferrari F 40.

The F50! What to say about a car that is incredible! I love the look of this car from every angles , It's not like the ugly front end of the Enzo. The Sound of this car give you goosebumps when you ear it (rev at 9000 rpm) and What about the performance of this car , 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and 0-100 mph in 6 seconds! The F50 have the soul of a F1 car and a Road Car. The Enzo got like too much of F1 car on it (i'm not saying that i don't like the Enzo) But The F50 was the Last Ferrari Supercar to boast a 6 speed Manual Transmission , no paddles. Paddle are good but i prefer to have a good old Manual Transmission to really feel the car , Kick the Gear in :). The F50 will always remain as my Favorite supercar of all time !
 I love this car.

I got in argument about this car today, so I thought Id drop by and leave a comment about how great I happen to think it is, when what do I fine??? One picture of a Ferrari F50 on what purports to be the Ultimate Car Page! This is a disgrace
Anyhow, the F50 is without doubt my favorite modern Ferrari, and not just because Clarkson hates it. This car combines speed comparable to that of an Enzo, with the bare-bones driving experience of the F40 and throws in its own party trick by being built like an F1 car. It may be ugly, but so are a lot of supercars and not many of them are this cool.
 ahhh the F-50.....

First off I am a big fan of all Ferraris', they are all more or less stunningly beautiful, not to mention very very fast. However the F-50 is without a doubt my personal favorite. The first time I saw it I fell in love with it, and still am. Say what you want about it, it's not raw enough, or fast enough, or it's too soft, blah, blah, blah. When I look at it, I see one of the most beautiful cars ever made. In my humble opinion it is just gorgeous. Stats aside, I love this car for it's looks more than anything else. Needless to say it can move, it is F-1 inspired after all. But all I have to do to appreciate it is look at it.

if anyone asked me which ferrari i liked not in the market i will always choose the f50.it looks gorgeous & i love its low height.i have always wanted to drive one.the only think i hate is that i have seen this car only once in my life.it was in a used car showroom in dubai a few years ago. I dont know how it will perform against the enzo but i am confident it wont be totally beaten.if only ferrari produced the f50 again it would definetely kill the gallardo & the porsche gt2.

60-valves, Jeebuz!! thats alot. This is better than the F40, no questions asked there. And what about that V12, it is something , aint it? this car is a surpurb handler, i'm sure about that. It goes just as fast the new Lamborghini Murcialago, even though it was released almost a decade before hand. the only thing is, imagine a convertible F50, that would be something to think about. But tommorow is another day, so let's just let Ferrari figure that out, shall we? this car is fantastic!!

"Don't get me wrong I like the f40 alot, but this is way better! The f40 may have more of a raw-race car feel and it's fast as hell, but the f50 has the handling over the f40 and it's also faster. I have a video of an f50 being tested and it's racing against Alan prost's F1 car,""the F1 wins of course but you'd be surprised how close the f50 comes""qoute from the dude in the video, lol All the way to 160mph,on a track with curves and everything stock vs stock(not even slicks on)I say the f50 wins. And if they both have proffesional drivers and everything like that,'cause the f50 handles way better. It's as close to a formula 1 car you could get on the road. Any ways the F50 is my favorite car,but the F40 is damn niice too,i'll take both if i won the lotto, lol!"""
not a proper successor to the F40

"Like the F50 alot. Don't get me wrong. But it does not replace the F40 for several reasons: 1- the design is very nice and smooth, but the ""nostrils"" are too much. They aren't bad, but they are too prominent and ""bulbous"". People must realize that the front of the car is its face, and the F50 looks like two big nostrils and a ""smily"" grill. Not bad, but not as nice as the F40. Maybe if the nostrils looked like those on the F40 LM racecar it would have been better. So, while a much more modern design (which is good), it is not relatively quite as well-designed, which is bad. 2- both cars have the highest racing technology for the era, the power is virtually the same. Specs say 478 for the F40, but I happen to know that before the cars were admitted to the USA, they were about 20 HP higher. Also, the torque in the F40 is MUCH better- and for both cars weighing 2800lbs, a torque difference of 25% is a lot. On the track- let's get it straight- the F40 is faster!!! Even Michael Schumacher agrees as he tested both cars. While the F50 has the edge in the long straights due to about 5% more HP, the F40 is easily superior in the cornering and short straights up to 120mph. 0-60 times mean nothing, but 1/4 mile times beat the F50 by 0.5 secs. Top speeds are also about the same for both. So, the F50 is hardly a faster successor (at best equal). 3- while the F50 is more advanced (obviously it is 8 years newer!!) it does not feel like a race car. It feels more like a Lamborghini or Porsche 959. The F40 is stark (no interior, only the very bare minimum) and drives like a racecar. That is where the F50 loses the most. The F50 is too ""civilized"" compared to the F40. Some people may like that- true racers and purists DO NOT. That is what seperated the F40 from the Lamborghini and the 959- not so much the speed as the ""feel"" and racecar looks. 4- Finally, the F50 was never raced professionally. NEVER. One of the main reasons is that is would not have been as competitive as the racing F40 LMs and GTEs. I mean if the F40 was already as fast or faster than the F50, why modify the F50 for racing? The F50 required much more modifying...and finally in 1997 when the F50 GT1 arrived, it was ALREADY outdated and could not win vs. the Porsche GT1s and the Mercedes CLK and Toyota GT1s. The marvelous F40 was highly competitive from its inception in 1987 all the way to 1997. It did not win alot, but that was primarily due to ZERO Ferrari factory support. 10 years...in fact the F40 LMs and GTEs were consistently faster than ANY other GT1 cars in 1995-1996 (including the F1s) but they were not reliable (low financing). So, all in all, the F50 was and is a great supercar- one of my favorites- but not the successor to the F40 it should have been."""

There's no doubt the F50 is a special car, but I do admit it leaves me wanting. In my humble opinion, the FX/Enzo/F60 is what the F50 should've/could've been in the first place.
Why are you picking on this great car?

The F50 is stil one of the fastesc Ferraris, and for it's displacement, the engine is very powerful

The F40 was raw and took the insane 80's turbo to the street. Turbo made it easy for Ferrari to get alot of horsepower but when turbo was banned during the nineties the situation got slightly changed. Sure, the F50 had the most hp for it's displacement NA, but still it wasn't that much faster than the F40. Infact, the F40s 3 litre turbo V8 is more raw power and the car itself breathes racing. The F50 got more of that Montecarlo kind of influens. With a more comfy (comperativly) interior and softer styling it didn't inherit what it's older brother had once been. Therefor we all look forward to the F60. From what we have seen it'll put racing back in the F-series, once again.
