Celebrating Ferrari Friday in great style we today take a closer look at a pair competition cars that have been consigned this week to the upcoming RM Sotheby's Villa Erba auction. Headlining the sale will be this 312 PB with an estimate of €12 - €14 million. Powered by Mauro Forghieri's mighty flat-12 engine, the 312 PB was hugely successful during the early 1970s, dominating the 1972 World Sports Car Championship. With two wins, chassis 0886 contributed to that success with wins at Buenos Aires and on the Nürburgring with Ronnie Peterson and Tim Schenken at the wheel. Sold to its first private owner in January of 1975 for $40,500, it is offered from a single ownership of 13 years.
Among the very first competition cars produced in Maranello is this Ferrari 166 MM Touring Barchetta. An early example of the famous 'little boat', this one was sold new to Argentina and had an eventful competition history. At one point, it was fitted with a small-block V8 and a Vignale body but it has been restored to its original configuration. Consigned from the formidable stable of an American collector, 0024M should find a new custodian for €4 - €5 million.
