could be irrelevant but the M5 has a very similar exhaust system.

Well isn't the V8 in the M3 said to be an M5 V10 minus 2 cylinders...?

Yep, that's the speculation. I think it's probably more going to be like the M5's V10 minus 2 cylinders, but further developed still.

For some reason I doubt BMW will be content with 100bhp/litre with the M3, especially as that would result in only 400bhp. And we all know the RS4's 4.2 makes 420 ponies. And we all know BMW will try to upstage that figure from less capacity.

I think a figure in the region of 430-440bhp sounds about right. Could be wrong though.

We also have to take into account the massively powerful CLK63 with 481bhp.

The old M3 had about 105bhp/litre. Maybe they'll be aiming at the same specific output? That would live the car with about 420bhp, enough to compete with the RS4/RS5.

However we also have to consider that if they make it too powerful the M3 could tempt buyers looking at the M6, as it could be faster than the V10 coupe, for a much lower price.

The old (E46) M3 was about as fast as the old M5, maybe even faster. I doubt the M6 buyer will go for an M3 as well, but you have a point there.

And yet it is not finished. They still have time to add aggressive looking spoilers and additional racing accessories. Anyway the E46 M3 CSL or the old E30 (? You know, the first one, 2.3 litre 200 hp) would be my selection compared to what I've seen so far.

And the pics just keep coming from m3post, this time some interior shots, specifically of the 4-dour E90.

There's some talk about the tach being from an M5 possibly, as most are expecting a higher RPM ceiling. Guess we'll just have to wait and see...
