Sadly, the race was marred by the fatal accident of Allan Simonsen early in the race in one of the two GTE-Am V8 Vantages. While the other cars continued, on the insistence of the Simonsen family, the remaining four cars failed to score notable results despite setting the fastest times in practice. The season did end on a high with several GTE-Am and GTE-Pro class wins for the team.

There was more success in 2014 when a pair of GTE-Pro victories were scored and the all-Danish line-up in the #95 GTE-Am won the FIA Endurance Trophy for GTE-Am teams. They did so scoring four class wins, including at Le Mans, while three of the four other rounds were won by the sister car. With virtually unchanged cars, Aston Martin Racing ventured on in the 2015 FIA WEC and scored one GTE-Pro and three GTE-Am class wins.

For 2016, the GTE rules were slightly loosened, which allowed for a mighty diffuser to be added to the car. Faced with ever increasing competition, the ageing racers proved very consistent and with two class wins, the World Endurance Cup for GT Drivers was secured. The only thing that eluded the car was a GTE-Pro class win at Le Mans. Due for replacement the following season, this was addressed with a daring last-lap pass by Jonny Adam in 2017.

For the 2018 season, the V8 Vantage GTE will finally be replaced in the GTE-Pro class by the all new Vantage GTE. Accordingly, the 2017 campaign, highlighted by a Le Mans class win, marked the end of a successful career that spanned over a decade. In the age of performance balancing, it is hard to judge a racing car on pure merit but the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE often made the most of the performance breaks and penalties it was dealt.
