| MG A 1600 |
| MountieFan16 11-24-2012 |
This car brings back fond memories. In the early '90's, my wife and I attended the Vintage Racing Weekend at Mid-Ohio Raceway. Each year, Mid-Ohio would honor a marque and that year it was MG. MG's from all over the state (and out of State as well) were in attendance; which included T-series, A's and B's. As I walked through the many cars on display, I found a 1960 MGA-1600 owned by a Gent from Columbus, Ohio, who owned a British Car Parts store in the city. The car was for sale. The owner had started a restoration, but didn't have the time to finish it. The car ran well and the body was solid (a rarity for this car), but the top and interior were very ragged. I spent the better part of 2 years restoring the MG with 90% of the work done by me. As mentioned the body and trim (bumpers, etc) were in good shape. I sent the carbs off to have them rebuilt. I used the car for weekend jaunts around Ohio backroads and took it to Michigan for a National MGA meet. The car never let me down, though a drive through a rain storm, left me soaked. After a while, I sold the MG to buy another project. But that's another story.... |
