Chassis:
This is the first 962C built by Richard Lloyd Racing using the Nigel Stroud designed aluminium honeycomb chassis. It was raced with considerable success by RLR during the 1987 season, which started off with a victory at the Norisring. For the non-championship race at Kyalami late in the year, the team received considerable factory backing in the form of driver Jochen Mass, a works specification engine and Rothmans livery. This was the only time an independently built 962C raced in factory colours and the team did not waste the opportunity as Mass won the race outright. At the end of the year, the car was sold to Japan where 962-106B was raced by the Trust Racing Team well into the 1990s. After an accident, a replacement chassis was fitted but the original tub was retained. Three second place finishes were the best result for the car in Japan. The original tub was repaired and remained with the car until the early 2010s. Following its acquisition by Duncan Hamilton ROFGO, it has been meticulously restored by Katana ltd. to the unique Rothmans livery used at Kyalami in 1987. At the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the car was also reunited with Jochen Mass, who drove it up the hill.
