Chassis:
Completed in the summer of 1950, this the third of five 166 MMs bodied by Touring with the 'Le Mans' Berlinetta style body. It was sold new to Angelo Biemi, who did not race it before selling it on to Luciano Masseroni in 1951. He raced the car at the Mille Miglia, finishing third in class. Subsequent owners continued to campaign the car for five more seasons with quite some success. It also made two further Mille Miglia appearance but retired on both occasions. Following its spell in Italian hands, it was sold to Switzerland where it eventually ended up in the junkyard of enthusiast Pierre de Siebenthal. He retained the car through to 1995 and ended up long term German ownership in 2000. He entrusted the comprehensive restoration to German specialist Mario Linke, who meticulously worked on the car for nearly two decades. The work was finally completed in Italy with Tradex. It was finished in the original blue paint, which was discovered under several layers of other paint. Once restored, it was shown at the 2020 Retromobile show.
