Chassis:
Finished in 'Solar Red', this was the first 2000 GT to receive a chassis number. It was originally used as a show car before Carroll Shelby convinced the Toyota Motor Company to hand him the car to race in SCCA events. Working together with Toyota engineers, Shelby American prepared this along with two others for competition use. Toyota's first competition effort in North America was short lived and this example was eventually acquired by a great 2000 GT enthusiast in 1980. He carefully restored the rare racer to its SCCA C-Production configuration and it has since been shown and demonstrated at select events. After over four decades of ownership, the longtime custodian decided to consign the car to the 2022 Gooding Amelia Island sale. Offered on the open market for the first time, it looks set to become the most expensive Japanese car ever sold at auction.
