paypal is internet based, so it sends from Paypal's cash, then you pay Paypal. ( ibelieve)

A few points I'd like to make:
I probably won't be becoming a "supporting member" as I don't feel that the subscription reflects what you get in return.
For little more than double the $30 you can get a years subscription to exellent automotive magazines, with some features that UCP does have: car stats (maybe not as in-depth as UCP, but enough), reviews of motorshows and events, and sometimes articles on different cars.
This illustrates the point about why we are so lucky that it is free anyway.
But I can also get more from the magazine that UCP doesn't have; news and scoops, test drives, long term reviews (excluding Henk's Xantia), group tests, editorials, as well as other features.
This illustrates why the $30 fee doesn't cut it with me; the additional things, such as larger avatars, a lack of adverts, faster loading times don't really justify the extra cost, compared to free.
Ok, so UCP has forums, but some magazines have their own free forums as well, so I don't see that as being a huge advantage over a magazine.
An important thing to remember is that people on the internet expect things to be free.
How many people have posted threads saying: Where can I download this software/ this music from?
The internet is quick and convenient, and if you start trying to interrupt that by making people fart about with payments etc, I think you do run the risk of turning people away.
Thanks for all the fish
That's the way the internet is moving. You're going to have to accept it at some point. Like I in the other thread, many currently free sites (Yahoo, MSN) have future plans of going to a paid system.
I'm going to eat breakfast. And then I'm going to change the world.
There is some sense in what you (and not only concerning my car ), hoewever, as Matt said, the trend is the other way around, and even the big suppliers of free stuff are now going to include paid features. (It is shrewed marketing, get people addicted for free and then put a price tag on it).Originally Posted by Coventrysucks
I like your comment about the magazines, there is however one catch, and that is space. The big advantage of UCP and some other sites is that all data are stored elsewhere, and are also immediately retrievable. With magazines the problem is that you read them, put them away, and if you want to look up things you have to have a pretty good index system to immediately find what you need, apart from the fact the that you meters of shelves to store all your issues.
UCP did do some testing/driving in the past, (WRX, Donkervoort), but that is a time consuming activitiy, certainly for a one man band. It might however be that future automotive magazines, as we know them will increasingly live from subscriptions through internet, and hard copies will only be bought by air travellers who can't use internet in the plane (just had another six hours flight so I did buy three magazines).
Finally, now that I am back in the more rural areas of this world, I can confirm that having no adds makes the site considerably faster, and I can watch a slide show without getting frustrated.

If your laptop has the battery duration ( or the planes are modern enough to have in-seat supplies :cough: ) there is an easier step....Originally Posted by henk4

used to do this all the time for business flights. Pull the customers web site onto the laptop and then spend the flight learnign about THEIR business. OK, I admit ( just dont' tekk the boss ) I also woudl leech the "more interesting" sites.
WARNING though, if the site has a link to a porn site soemwhere in it's depth, the link WILL be followed and you might find you've downloaded a complete porn site too. Bitter experience, I got a phone call from our IT guys asking me what I was doing when this happened to me - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

Sounds good in theory, however the EC only provides economy class tickets, which really leave little space and your laptop risks to be crushed when the guy sitting before decides to fully recline his seat. Having 220 available at the seat is also imaginary, but I did study a few reports last night.

The easiest method for you, without any assistance from your dad, is by using a Money Order. Go to your bank (or any bank for that matter) and request a US Funds Money Order in the amount that you wish to subscribe. If you want to use this method, PM either Wouter or myself to discuss this route in more detail, including the "payable to" name, and a mailing address.Originally Posted by Suka

You can use Paypal with just a bank account, it just takes a little longer.Originally Posted by Suka
