At the recent Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the Ferrari 250 TR took centre stage with a special class featuring 20 different examples. One of the absolute stars was the second of two 250 TR Prototipos. First raced at Le Mans in 1957, it was originally fitted with an experimental 3.1 litre engine and a pontoon-fendered body. Serving as a works car for more than a season, it was later updated to 1958 works specification and driven to victory at Buenos Aires and Sebring by Phil Hill and Peter Collins. Although extensively raced in the United States well into the 1960s, it has survived in remarkably original condition. Today it is the only original 250 TR in existence and most recently changed hands for a staggering $40 million. We captured every angle of chassis 0704TR to complement our shots of the sister Prototipo, which we already featured. The result is a mouth watering 69-shot gallery.

How long will it last? This is a question that has been raised many times in the last few years about the ever increasing prices of collector cars. Following the recent Monterey sales, we can say that the boom is not over yet. On the Monterey Peninsula close to $400 million worth of cars changed hands and no record was safe. At the start of the week, all eyes were on the Bonhams sale, which included a 250 GTO offered at no reserve; a sure bet for a new world record. During the following days, all the major rivals had Ferraris lined up that would challenge the old record as part of yet another buying frenzy during the Pebble Beach week.
In between visiting events, we ventured to four of the biggest auctions to capture all the highlights. The result is a 180-shot gallery, which serves to illustrate a brief report of each of the sales. At the bottom of the article links can be found to the final results from the four auctioneers.
Renault, meanwhile, have released full details of the Sport R.S. 01, built in conjunction with Dallara. Although constructed for a one-make series, it boasts a LMP1 specification carbon-fibre composite monocoque, which uses a Nissan GT-R derived V6 as a partly stressed member. Not built to or limited by any particular regulations, the sub 1,100 kg machine should be mighty quick. The R.S. 01 will be used from 2015 in the new Renaultsport Trophy, which includes drives in Super GT and LMP2 as part of the prizes.

One of the longest running events of the annual Monterey Classic Car week is the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion held on the legendary Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This year's edition welcomed over 550 classic cars, spread over 15 different race groups. The machines entered ranged from very early Grand Prix and Indy cars to a superb selection of IMSA GTO and GTP racers. The main feature this year was the Maserati centennial, marked by a special display and a strong presence of competition Maseratis in the appropriate groups. Further highlights included a dedicated Can-Am group and the ever popular Trans-Am machines from the same era.
Our photographers were trackside to capture all groups at least once, which has resulted in a 240-shot gallery, which illustrates a concise report. Additionally, we had already captured the Monterey Motorsports Pre-Reunion a week earlier, which featured many of the same cars.

At this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance the unwritten rule that only a pre-War car could become 'Best of Show' was finally broken. The car to it was this truly spectacular Ferrari 375 MM Scaglietti Coupe. Built for legendary movie director Roberto Rosselini, it was Scaglietti's first attempt at creating a road-going Ferrari. Following a previous restoration, the current owner already won many awards, including a class win at Pebble back in 1998. A new restoration by Dennison International Motorsport brought the one-off Ferrari up to a new level. In our 64-shot gallery, which includes shots from this year and previous appearances, you can see just why this Ferrari finally broke the mould.
One of our favourites for Best of Show at Pebble this year was this Talbot Lago T150C SS Pourtout Coupe. Created immediately before the War, this was one of three 'Teardrop' bodies built on the race-bred T150C SS chassis by Pourtout following a Georges Paulin design. During the second half of the 1940s, it was extensively raced but then disappeared from sight until resurfacing in 2006 in highly original condition. The subsequent ower has since had it completely restored and our 31-shot gallery includes pictures from before and after the restoration.
Lamborghini, meanwhile, used the Monterey Car Week to launch the all-new Huracan Super Trofeo racing car. Created with the help of Gian Paolo Dallara, who had already been responsible for the Miura chassis many years ago, the new racer is intended for Lamborghini's popular one-make Super Trofeo series. Compared to the road car counterpart, the switch to rear-wheel drive only represents one of the biggest departures.

On Sunday, the Monterey Car Week celebrated its grand finale with the 64th annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Universally considered the most prestigious event of its kind, this year's edition proved an historic one as for the first time since 1968 a Post War car won the coveted Best of Show award. In addition to the familiar classes, the 2014 Pebble Beach also featured special classes for Early Steam Cars, Ruxton, Fernandez & Darrin coach-work, streamlined Tatras, the Maserati Centennial, the 1914 French Grand Prix and the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa. The latter was particularly impressive as no fewer than 20 Testa Rossas were on hand, including all of the surviving works cars. The event had already kicked off a few days earlier with the traditional Tour d'Elegance, which once again included a run on the nearby Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, through the legendary Corkscrew corner.
Our photographers were on hand throughout the week and have returned with a combined 370-shot gallery of both the Concours and Tour d'Elegance, which serves to illustrate a concise report with the show's highlights.

In the next couple of days over 100 Ferraris will cross the block on the Monterey Peninsula during six different auctions. Today, we take a closer look at two of the most interesting of the Ferraris on offer.
Gooding & Co. will offer the truly spectacular 365 P Pininfarina Tre Posti Speciale. Built in 1966, this design masterpiece combines race-bred underpinnings with a mighty V12 engine and a unique central driving position. Although a production model would not follow, the styling for the smaller, V6-engined Dino was clearly based on the Paris Show Car. The first of only two built, the example on offer has been in the ownership of the Chinetti family since the late 1960s, the Gooding auction offers a unique opportunity to acquire this rare machine and the expectations are very high. We captured every detail on our 23-shot gallery at the Gooding tent this morning.
Another mighty Ferrari on offer, which actually will not cross the block, is the 410 S Scaglietti Spider. It has been consigned to the unique Rick Cole auction, which offers potential buyers the opportunity to bid online until Sunday August 17 at midnight local time. Constructed in 1955 for the Carrera Panamericana, the 410 S was Ferraris biggest 'hammer' yet. It featured a five-litre V12 good for at least 340 bhp. After the Carrera was cancelled, the featured 410 S was sold to Tony Parravano, who only campaigned it three times. In the following decades it accumulated only very few additional miles as the subsequent owners were quite intimidated by the mighty machine. As a result, the car is in highly original condition, which is very rare for a Ferrari competition car of the era. As can be seen in our 24-shot gallery, it combines the best traits of the beauty and the beast in one package.

This weekend, the Monterey Car Week kicked off with the Monterey Motorsports Pre Reunion at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. As the name suggests, this is very much a build-up to the Reunion scheduled for the coming weekend. Many of the great cars set to appear were already on track. Among them were rare machines ranging from a Toyota Eagle Mk III to no fewer than four Maserati Birdcages. We were also on hand, which has resulted in this 200-shot gallery, which includes all 12 groups out on track during the weekend.
Bonhams was out in force with a preview of their upcoming and highly anticipated Quail Lodge Auction. The star of the display was undoubtedly the Ferrari 250 GTO from the Maranello Rosso Collection. Offered at no reserve, it looks set to easily break the existing auction world record.
More than ever before, exciting new cars will be launched this week. At Pebble Beach, McLaren will showcase the track-oriented 650S Sprint. The new machine will combine a more poised chassis with the 'standard' 650S engine.
Also on display at Pebble will be the high performance Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR. Probably the fastest SUV available, the 550 hp machine has clocked a lap at the Nurburgring in just 8 minutes 14 seconds.

While the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance has never had a post-War car as the 'best of show' in the modern era, the annual event does offer plenty of real estate to these machines. One of the stand out cars at last year's event was the very last Alfa Romeo TZ2 produced. This prompted us to take a closer look at this pocket GTO and we found that we had already seen a sister car at Pebble Beach some years ago. Accordingly, we have expanded our article to now include four different chassis, pictured in a 64-shot gallery. At this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, competition cars will also take centre stage as the 100th anniversary of the 1914 French Grand Prix will be celebrated, not only will the three Mercedes Grand Prix cars be featured but also an Opel and a Peugeot that competed in the event.
Another Alfa Romeo that grabbed our attention while browsing through our files was this T33/TT/3 Giro d'Italia Coupe. Built specifically to allow Jean Claude Andruet to repeat his 1974 Giro d'Italia win, the car was only ever used once. The unique machines combines a 1975 type chassis with an earlier V8 engine and a purpose-built coupe body. We captured the one-off T33/TT/3 Coupe during a very rare outing at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion back in 2010.

Regular visitors to the annual Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will undoubtedly recognise many cars from previous editions but there also many rare unusual cars that they most, likely, will have not seen before. Certainly falling into that category in 2013 was this Shelby T-10 King Cobra Ford, which was built for the 1967 Can-Am championship. Designed by Len Terry, the Group 7 featured an unconventional suspension with a single transverse mounted spring front and rear, as well as a rare all-aluminium 351 Ford V8. Unfortunately, the T-10 King Cobra proved no match for the more powerful Chevrolet engined Lolas and McLarens and was only briefly raced. The example featured in our 21-shot gallery was the second chassis completed, which was raced by a private effort in 1968 and 1969. The current owner has had it completely restored to 1967 specification and even sourced the only surviving aluminium Ford V8. For those who missed it in 2013, they will have another opportunity in just over a week's time as it is once again on the entry list, in Group 2B.
To put the second incarnation of the King Cobra in perspective, we have also updated our article and gallery on the original Cooper T61M King Cobra, which was campaigned with considerable more success by Shelby in 1963 and 1964.
One of the late Carroll Shelby's successors, certainly in spirit, is John Hennessey, who specialises in improving existing models. Of late, he has also started producing complete cars and from 2015 will also offer the Venom F5. The F5 is a reference to the strongest tornados with winds of 261 - 318 mph, which is most certainly a reference to the machine's potential top speed. Although no concrete figures have been published, Hennessey suggests the Venom F5 will feature an engine capable of producing in excess of 1,400 bhp. A limited run of only 30 examples of this mighty machine will be available.

August has arrived and in our world that means only one thing: the Monterey car week is about to take off. More than ever before, the eyes will be on the auctioneers, which are bound to make headlines with spectacular sales. None more so than Bonhams, who will offer ten Ferraris from the Maranello Rosso Collection in the company's Quail Lodge Sale. This is headlined by the 250 GTO, which had been owned by the late Fabrizio Violati since 1965. With recent prices of privately sold examples having reportedly reached the $50 million mark, a new world record will surely be set with the sale. Particularly because all ten Ferraris, including the GTO, will be offered at no reserve!
The pending sale of chassis 3851GT has prompted us to dive into our archives to further complete our 250 GTO article. In addition to the chassis details of all 28 examples still fitted with the 1962/63 body styles, we have also expanded our gallery to include the 22 cars we have seen over the years. This has resulted in our largest ever single-car gallery at a whopping 462 shots of the cars at events all around the world, which should ensure several hours of viewing pleasure!

Slated at the time as the greatest race yet, the highly anticipated 1914 French Grand Prix was in many ways a peaceful prelude to the Great War that would sweep over Europe just a couple of days later. Represented by Peugeot and Mercedes, the protagonists of the race were also France and Germany. Built to completely revised regulations, the Germans brought this brand 18/100 Grand Prix. Powered by a 4.5-litre, four-cylinder engine with four valves and spark plugs per cylinder, this was the most sophisticated competition car built to date. After a thrilling 20-lap race on a massive circuit on the roads around Lyon, Mercedes came out as the winner with Christian Lautenschlager heading a historic one-two-three victory. To mark the occasion, Mercedes-Benz brought all three surviving examples, including the actual winner to Lyon earlier this year. We captured the three machines at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where they ran up the hill nose-to-tail. Good news for American enthusiasts; the winning car will be out later this month at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the Monterey Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
With the all-new Toyota GT 86 CS-R3 announced earlier this week, the Japanese manufacturer is set to bring rear-wheel-drive back to the World Rally Championship. Based on the highly acclaimed GT 86 road car, it features a 250 bhp version of the Subaru-built four-cylinder boxer engine. The GT 86 CS-R3 will make its debut in a fortnight at the German round of the WRC and will be available to customers in 2015.
