2024-10-31: 2024 Estoril Classics report and 200-shot gallery ...
Earlier this month, the Peter Auto series celebrated its season finale during the annual Estoril Classics. As it was the final meeting of the year, there were not only race wins but also championships up for grabs. As has been the case for several years now, the familiar Peter Auto grids were joined by the local Iberian Historic Endurance series and a special Classic Grand Prix field for pre-1986 Formula 1 cars. With ten different grids in action during the three-day meeting, the action was virtually non-stop. There were many great races with close battles to decide the race wins and the final championship order. A particular highlight was the Classic Endurance Racing 1 race, which saw Armand Mille come achingly close to victory from the last row of the grid and the first Endurance Racing Legends race, which was held in complete darkness. The weather was uncharacteristic for the beautiful area but that did not dampen the spirits for the competitors and the enthusiast crowd that came to the track. Our photographers were also at the former home of the Portuguese Grand Prix to capture the Estoril Classics in a concise report and a 200-shot gallery. |
2024-10-29: Jaguar XKSS headed for auction, Junkyard sale headliners and new 911 Carrera T ...
At this weekend's London sale, RM Sotheby's will offer this beautifully preserved XKSS. It was originally conceived as a D-Type and sold to noted Jaguar enthusiast Phil Scragg. A year after taking delivery, he had it upgraded to XKSS configuration by the factory. As such, it is the only factory-built XKSS to retain its D-Type chassis number. Having had just three owners in the last four decades, chassis XKD 540 is expected to sell for £9,000,000 - 11,000,000.This past weekend, all eyes were on the Los Angeles junkyard of Porche Foreign Auto Wrecking where the legendary Rudi Klein Collection was housed. Over the years, the German-born enthusiast had amassed a formidable collection of classic cars, which he stored, untouched in his wrecking yard. While most cars were in derelict condition, the opportunity to acquire rare cars that had not been seen in decades clearly had an allure on the bidders. Leading the way was this Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy, which is one of just 29 built and the only one originally finished in black. With a final sales price of $9,355,000, the top estimate was handsomely exceeded. Topping the estimate nearly twofold was this early Lamborghini Miura, which had been part of the Rudi Klein Collection since 1978. Although in need of a complete restoration, some paid $1,325,000 for the privilege of owning it. The latest addition to the 992 II-generation Porsche 911 line-up is the Carrera T in both Coupe and Cabriolet form. Compared to the first 992 Carrera T, the latest version is slightly more powerful but has retained the lightweight mantra and six-speed manual gearbox. |

2024-10-25: 2024 Spa Six Hours report and 170-shot gallery ...
Last month, we travelled to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the third time in four months, this time to cover the 31st annual Spa Six Hours. One of the most prestigious historic races on the calendar, the Spa Six Hours is a true test for man and machine. As always at Spa, the ever changeable weather conditions were a factor but more so for the support events. The build-up to the big race consisted of an entertaining support program with a large variety of sports car and single seater races. We were particularly taken by the bumper grids for the Historic Grand Prix Association and Masters Racing Legends races. The Spa Six Hours race itself had more than its fair share of close racing, a surprise leader and last-minute drama. Our photographers were on hand throughout the event and have chronicled the highlights in a concise report, illustrated by a 170-shot gallery, which includes the Spa Six Hours from start to finish. |
2024-10-21: Porsche 911 GT3 updated, new Corolla racer and Ferrari F80 in action ...
Just before the weekend, Porsche revealed the 992 II-generation 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 Touring models. The drivetrain is carried over from the first generation models but with a shorter ratio final drive and reduced weight to improve acceleration. Further performance was found by revising the aerodynamics with a new front diffuser, sculpted lower front wishbones and angled side plates on the rear wing. The 911 GT3 is more track-oriented and can be specified with the hardcore Weissach package or in a more civilised touring configuration, which is a nod to the available versions of the original 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Altogether more civilised is the actual 911 GT3 Touring or 'Touring package', which instantly recognisable by the lack of a rear wing.Toyota North American Motorsports has teamed up with Toyota Gazoo Racing to operate as Toyota Gazoo Racing North America from the 2025 season onwards. The first car launched by the new team is the GR Corolla TC, which will race in SRO's TC America series. Based on the production GR Corolla, it combines a turbocharged three-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Shortly after its launch, the all-new Ferrari F80 saw its dynamic debut at the Ferrari Finali Mondiale over the weekend. |

2024-10-17: All new Ferrari F80 hypercar and RML P39 in detail ...
Hot on the heels of the new McLaren W1, Ferrari today revealed the P80. The range-topping model follows in the footsteps of legendary models like the 288 GTO, F40 and most recently the LaFerrari. The drivetrain is closely related to that of the double Le Mans winning 499P and combines a 900 hp internal combustion engine with a pair of electric motors. The system output is a staggering 1,200 hp. The sophisticated aerodynamics package creates a 1,000 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. Access to the cockpit is through butterfly doors. Inside the F80 is decidedly driver focused and Ferrari describes the seating position as 1+. By minimising the passenger side of cockpit, Ferrari could also reduce the width of the car to improve the aerodynamics. Production of the F80 is limited to 799 examples, all of which have most likely been allocated to Ferrari's preferred customers. As part of the company's 40th anniversary, RML have developed limited production P39. Based on a 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S, it boasts a bespoke carbon-fibre body that was clearly inspired by the original Porsche 911 GT1. The engine has also been reworked to produce 900 bhp and a 1,000 Nm of torque. RML will only produce 10 examples of the P39 and prospected buyers will need to fork over GBP 495,000 and a donor Porsche 911 Turbo S. |
2024-10-14: Alpine at the Paris Motor Show and BMW Skytop production car ...
Fittingly taking centre stage today at the Paris Motor Show was French sports car manufacturer Alpine with three world debuts. The absolute star of the show is the Alpenglow Hy6. It is a further evolution of the Alpenglow show car. In this incarnation, it is powered by a new twin-turbo V6 that runs on hydrogen. Mounted amidships in an LMP3 specification chassis, the bespoke engine produces a staggering 740 bhp. The striking Alpenglow Hy6 could very well form the basis of a next generation Le Mans racer once hydrogen engines are accepted from the 2028 season onwards.Another high performance car on display is the limited production A110 R Ultime. Only 110 examples will be produced of what is literally the ultimate version of the A110 R. On high octane fuel its four-cylinder engine is now capable of 345 bhp, while torque is up to 420 Nm. Rarer and more expensive still will be the La Bleue configuration of which just 15 will be built for €330,000, including VAT each. A third model in the Alpine line-up is previewed in the A390_β show car. It is an all-electric four-door machine, which will sit above the A290 in the Alpine range. Following the show car that debuted at Villa d'Este earlier this year, BMW have now confirmed the production of the Skytop roadster. Production is limited at 50 examples of the 507 Roadster and Z8 Roadster inspired model. It will be powered by a twin-turbo V8, while the leather covered roll-bar is carried over from the earlier concept car. |

2024-10-11: Rare Group B Porsche 911 headed for auction and latest news ...
Headlining this weekend's Broad Arrow Auctions Chattanooga Auction is this very rare Porsche 911 SC/RS. Built to compete in the Group B rally class, it was based on the 911 SC road car. Just 21 examples were produced to meet the homologation requirements for an evolution version of a production road car. It was 300 kg lighter and considerably more powerful than the road, the Group B version of the 911 was campaigned by the works-backed Prodrive team and also by several privateers. The consigned example was sold to a privateer and raced in the 1984 Tour de Corse. It was the car's only outing and accordingly, it has survived in highly original condition. Consigned by only its second private owner, '021' should sell for over $2.5 million. This week, Rolls-Royce unveiled an evolution of the current generation Ghost. Known as the Series II, the V12-engined luxury limousine boasts a plethora of improvements. From the launch, it is also available in the Extended Wheelbase and Black Badge versions. Starting with an Enyaq Coupe vRS production road car, Škoda Motorsport has created an all-electric racing car. Dubbed the Enyaq RS Race, it is a full 300 kg lighter and slightly lower than the road car but uses the same electric drivetrain. It was built to the regulations of the Rally2 category in which Škoda Motorsport currently competes with the Fabia Rally2. |
2024-10-06: All-new McLaren W1 hypercar launched ...
Exactly 50 years after Emerson Fittipaldi won McLaren's first Formula 1 World Championship with the M23, the British manufacturer revealed the all-new W1. It is the new range topping model that is the successor of the legendary F1 and the highly acclaimed P1. The W1 combines a carbon-fibre composite chassis with a sophisticated drivetrain and highly advanced active aerodynamics. Producing a combined 1,257 bhp, the drivetrain combines a twin-turbo V8 with radial flux electric motor that is integrated with the eight-speed automatic gearbox. All this power is fed to the rear wheels only. Thanks to the extensive weight saving measures, the lightest dry weight is only 1,399 kg. The body features full gull-wing doors, ground effect aerodynamics and an active rear wing that can extend to create a low-drag long-tail. Production of the W1 is capped at just 399 examples and all have already been spoken for. |

2024-10-03: 2024 Chantilly Arts & Elegance report and 150-shot gallery ...
Last month the tenth anniversary of the Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille was celebrated. The biennial Concours d'Elegance was once again held in the imposing gardens of the Chateau de Chantilly. This year's edition had a variety of special classes celebrating the 100 years of the Bugatti Type 35, what would have been the 100th birthday of Italian engineer Carlo Chiti, and 50 years since the Lamborghini Countach entered production. There were also classes for the Mercedes-Benz SL and four-cylinder engined competition Porsches. Eligible for judging were not just classic cars but also modern one-off show cars and hypercars, and the cars entered by one of the 40 enthusiast clubs. On Saturday, the entrants had the opportunity to participate in a 100 km tour through the nearby countryside. This offered the spectators a rare opportunity to see cars like a Ferrari 250 GTO in the 'wild.'Our photographers were on hand throughout the weekend and have compiled a class-by-class 150-shot gallery, which also includes coverage of the tour on Saturday. Many of the highlights are also included in our detailed report. |
