2023-06-29: Ferrari launch first XX Programne cars for the road ...
Today, Ferrari have revealed the first details of the SF90 XX Stradale and the SF90 XX Spider. Based on the hybrid SF90, both models represent the first Ferraris built under the XX Programme that are fully road legal. The two cars have a little more power and also benefit from a comprehensive new aerodynamics package. This includes a fixed rear wing, which is the first to appear on Ferrari road car since the F50. The result is a massive 530 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. The Spider features a sophisticated retractable hard-top that can be opened and closed at speeds of up to 45 km/h. Production of both cars limited with 799 Stradales and 599 Spiders due to be built. Knowing the demand for limited production Ferraris, these will most likely all have been spoken for by now. |
2023-06-26: Le Mans Classic week with final 935 and Artcurial auction ...
For the second time this month, all eyes are on Le Mans this week. The full-length Circuit de la Sarthe will be in use once more, this time for the 11th edition of the Le Mans Classic. Celebrating the Le Mans centennial, it promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Not having missed one edition, we will be at the track to capture all the action. To get you in the mood, we have taken a closer look at this very striking Porsche 935/79 that competed in last year's event. It was originally sold to Gianpiero Moretti and campaigned in MOMO colours. The very last 935/79 produced by the factory, it was only recently prepared for historic racing. As part of the event, Artcurial will stage the traditional Le Mans Classic Auction on Friday. Headlining the sale is another Porsche, the 962C that finished third overall at Le Mans in 1990. This was quite an achievement for the small Japanese team that ran the car as the black machine finished ahead of all the works cars except for a pair of Jaguars. In the hands of its current owner, 962-154 has been meticulously prepared by Equipe Europe and campaigned in historic events. It is estimated to sell for €1.5 - €1.8 million. From the same stable comes this Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT2. This car was raced predominantly in Japan and with considerable success. It did appear in the 2015 Aston Martin Festival race at Le Mans. Eligible for the popular Endurance Racing Legends series, GT2/005 has a pre-sale estimate of €500,000 - 800,000. |

2023-06-23: 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans report and gallery ...
Earlier this month the Circuit de la Sarthe hosted the centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The capacity entry of 62 cars featured the largest top level prototype field in years with defending champions facing newcomers Ferrari, Porsche, Cadillac and Peugeot. Further helped by the changeable conditions, it was an eventful and very tight race that went to the wire. In addition to the actual race, the 100th anniversary was marked in great style with a parade of winning cars and other interesting machines that previously raced at Le Mans. Among the spectacular field were a large number of Porsche 917s, 956s and 962s and also the two time winning TWR WSC 95. The more recent Audis and Toyotas were also out in force, while Mazda brought over the ever popular 787B for the centenary. Our friend Bob van de Wolf was on hand to capture all the highlights in this gallery, which serves to illustrate our brief report. |
2023-06-20: 2023 Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or report and 170-shot gallery ...
A set fixture on the historic racing calendar for decades, the 53rd Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or was held at the Circuit Dijon-Prenois during the first weekend of June. As has been the case during the last couple of editions, a selection of the Peter Auto grids was combined with a pair of single seater race groups. Missing from the regular schedule were the most modern cars, which never felt quite at home on the tight and twisty circuit in the hills of France's Burgundy region. In addition to the action on track, there were also a large number of enthusiast car clubs in attendance. The focus this year was on the 70th anniversary of the Corvette, which attracted great examples of all eight generations of the legendary American sports car.Our photographers were on hand and focused on the action on the undulating track. The result of their combined efforts is a class-by-class 170-shot gallery and a race-by-race report. |

2023-06-16: Mercedes Vision One-Eleven, Elise reimagined and Emira GT4 ...
As a tribute to the great C111 show cars, Mercedes-Benz has now created the Vision One-Eleven. Like the original design concepts of the 1960s and 1970s, the new study also serves a technology demonstrator. The Vision One-Eleven is powered by a sophisticated axial-flux motor developed by newly acquired subsidiary Yasa Motors.Original designer Julian Thomson helped a British start-up to re-imagine the Elise and create the Nyobolt EV. In addition to the revised exterior design, it is also equipped with Nyobolt's proprietary fast-charging batteries. In just six minutes, 250 km of range can be added, which is at least twice as fast as the current industry standard. Already announced last year, Lotus has now revealed the definitive version of the Emira GT4. It is 10% more powerful than previously announced and will be built for customers by RML. The Emira GT4 will make its debut at this weekend's Snetterton round of the British GT Championship. Chasing one of the few trophies still missing from Ford's cabinet, the 'Blue Oval' will enter the Dakar Rally with a T1+ version of the all-new Ranger Raptor in 2025. In the meantime, Ford will race a development of the previous generation Raptor to get a toe in the water. |
2023-06-12: Centenary Le Mans winner, new Mustang GT3 and hydrogen Ligier ...
This weekend's centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was destined to be a historic one and the race certainly did not disappoint. The largest field of top level, factory prototypes in a generation and changeable weather conditions contributed to a nail-biting race, decided only in the final hours on Sunday afternoon. Eventually, and perhaps fittingly, it was Ferrari with the 499P that claimed the win after a race-long battle with one of the Toyotas. It was the closest finish at Le Mans in years. For Ferrari, it was the first outright win since 1965. Just four races into its career, the 499P is already very much a great success.During the build-up to the race, Ford Performance Vehicles took the wraps off the all-new Mustang GT3. With the GT3 regulations due to be adopted by the FIA WEC as well from 2024 onwards, it is due to race at next year's Le Mans with the German Proton team. Developed for Ford by Multimatic and M-Sport, it features a production-based naturally aspirated V8 and all-round independent suspension. The Mustang GT3 shown at Le Mans boasted a spectacular Troy Lee design, which we hope will be carried over for the Multimatic run works effort that will compete with the Mustang GT3 in the North American events. As part of Le Mans' big push towards a hydrogen category, Ligier and Bosch produced this JS2 RH2. It is powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine that runs on hydrogen. Shown in prototype form at Le Mans, development is ongoing but the engine is already producing over 550 bhp with more horses expected to be found in the next few weeks. |

2023-06-09: New Porsche hypercar, hydrogen Toyota racer and new Alpine Le Mans car ...
At a special celebration for the company's 75th anniversary, Porsche revealed the Mission X Concept last night. This a design study for a next generation hypercar to follow in the footsteps of the 959, Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. Although details are limited, the Mission X is all electric and should have around one horsepower for every kilogram of weight.Another major announcement came at Le Mans in the form of the Toyota GR H2 Racing Concept, which is a preview of Toyota's 2026 Le Mans racer. Significantly, it will be powered by an internal combustion engine fueled by hydrogen. With the GR H2 comes an acceleration towards a hydrogen only Toyota competition program. Also unveiled at the Le Mans centenary is the Alpine A424_β, which is due to race in the Hypercar category from 2024 onwards. Built to the IMSA LMDh regulations, it combines an Oreca-sourced chassis with a bespoke, turbocharged V6 engine. This is mated to a spec hybrid system supplied by Bosch. The design of the A424_β was inspired by the Alpenglow concept shown last year. |
2023-06-06: Le Mans winners from Porsche, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo ...
The centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be held this weekend. To mark the occasion, we have taken a closer look at three outright winners we have seen in action during the last year. First up is the Porsche 936 that was driven to victory by Jürgen Barth, Hurley Haywood and Jacky Ickx during the 1977 edition. It was the first example built and today, chassis 936-001 is the only one in private hands. It was recently restored to its Le Mans winning configuration and demonstrated at the Festival of Speed by Jacky Ickx himself.A winner in 1958, this Ferrari 250 TR58 was part of Pierre Bardinon's Mas du Clos collection for many years. We have seen 0728TR several times and in 2022, it was demonstrated by the most recent owner at the Goodwood Revival as part of Ferrari's 75th Anniversary Celebrations. Alfa Romeo won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four years in a row between 1931 and 1934. The winner in 1934 was this Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Brianza Le Mans Spider. It was part of the same collection for five decades from 1954, and has subsequently been sympathetically restored. The current custodian campaigned 2311249 at the Le Mans Classic. |

2023-06-01: Six-cylinder Ferrari and Aston Martin DBR9 headed for auction and Alpine Hypercar first glimpse ...
That Ferrari did not just race V12-engined cars is illustrated by this 121 LM. One of only a handful Ferraris built with a straight six engine, it was blisteringly fast but ultimately not quite as reliable as the twelve-cylinder models it raced alongside. Chassis 0546LM raced in the Mille Miglia and 24 Hours of Le Mans as a factory car before it was sold to the United States. It will now return to Le Mans as one of the headliners in next week's exclusive RM Sotheby's Centenary sale. Also on offer is this well-raced Aston Martin DBR9. A customer car, it was raced competitively from 2007 through to the end of 2011, scoring outright and class wins. Its third in class at Le Mans in 2010 was another career highlight. Not raced since 2011, DBR9/106 represents a great ticket into what is now historic racing's hottest category. Alpine will use the Friday before Le Mans to reveal the upcoming Hypercar. Built to the LMDh rule set, it will be based on an Oreca chassis and should make its competition debut in 2024. |
