2025-05-30: Zagato Alfa and Bovensiepen launched at Villa d'Este, and new M2 CS and A390 ...
During last weekend's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, Zagato revealed two striking coupes. The first is this striking 8C DoppiaCoda. Based on the 8C Competitizione, it is a tribute to the great 8C Alfa Romeos built during the 1930s. The styling also includes a new interpretation of the SZ Coda Tronca with its distinct 'Kamm' tail. The result is striking Coupe that was awarded 'Best in Class' in the concept car category. Also unveiled on the shores of Lake Como was the new Bovensiepen Zagato Coupe. It was created by the same Bovensiepen family that were behind the Alpina brand, which is now owned by BMW. Like the Alpinas, the new Zagato Coupe is derived from a BMW, in this case the M4 Convertible. This was chosen as a base so a pillar less coupe could be crafted with Zagato's trademark double bubble roof. Each example will take over 250 hours to build and we understand a run of 100 examples is planned. Another new car shown at Como was the BMW M2 CS. It is the second generation of the high performance, track oriented M2. It is powered by a twin turbo, six-cylinder engine that produces well over 500 bhp. With no manual available capable of handling this much power and torque, the 'G87' M2 CS is equipped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. After several teaser images and a concept car, the production version of the Alpine A390 finally broke cover this week. The five-seat fastback is the second model in the Alpine line-up and features an all-electric drivetrain that is capable of 462 bhp in the most potent, GTS version. |
2025-05-27: Ferraris top major auctions and new BMW Concept Speedtop ...
This weekend, Broad Arrow Auctions staged their inaugural Villa d'Este sale. Topping the auction on the shores of Lake Como was this Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa. It is believed to be the oldest complete Ferrari in existence and has had just two owners since 1965. It was acquired back then for $3,800 but the next custodian of 004C had to dig deep and paid €7.4 million for the privilege of owning this piece of Ferrari history. An equally historic Ferrari crossed the block at a single lot RM Sotheby's sale during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend. This was the very F2001 that Michael Schumacher had driven to victory in the Principality back in 2001. Later in the year, chassis 211 also scored a win at the Hungarian Grand Prix, which sealed the World Championship for the German ace. Setting a new world record, it sold for a startling €16 million. BMW traditionally showcases a concept car during the Villa d'Este concours d'elegance and this year it was the Concept Speedtop. In many ways a fixed head version of the Concept Skytop revealed last year. It is equipped with the most powerful BMW V8 production engine yet, although the exact figures were not published. Like the Skytop, it is likely that the new Speedtop will also see a limited production run. |

2025-05-19: 2025 Spa Classic preview with Ferrari and Lola racers ...
One of the annual highlights on our calendar is the Spa Classic. Scheduled for this weekend, it is one of the longest running stand-alone Peter Auto events. Spread over 10 different grids, well over 400 racing cars are expected to take to the legendary circuit. We will be there to cover the event as always and all the races can now be followed live on the Peter Auto YouTube channel. In the the mean time, to get you in the mood we have taken a closer look at three cars that are expected to star.A relatively new and hugely popular addition to the schedule is the Endurance Racing Legends 2 grid. In fact, it has been so popular that the field is now split with ERL2 dedicated to two generations of GT2 cars only. Winning both ERL2 heats at the Barcelona season opener was this Ferrari F430 GTC. Originally raced by Scuderia Ecosse, it was also hugely successful in period. Extensively raced between 2006 and 2010, it scored numerous class and outright victories and also won the 2006 British GT Championship courtesy of ten wins in fourteen races. Now owned by a British historic racer, chassis 2418 should again be at the sharp end at the Spa Classic. Also part of the same field is this slightly later Ferrari 458 Grand Am. As the name suggests, it was specifically built for the Grand Am and later GTD regulations as used in North America. This particular example was raced in period at Daytona and Sebring before the program it was part of was wound down. A recent addition to the Classic Endurance Racing 2 field is this very rare Lola T297. One of just four built ahead of the 1978 season, the BMW powered machine was entered in three editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It had a second and quite long lease of life in hill climbing. Chassis HU91 eventually made to the United States and is now painted in its 1978 Le Mans colours. |
2025-05-15: Italian thoroughbreds headed for RM Sotheby's Milan sale ...
At the upcoming RM Sotheby's Milan sale three Italian thoroughbreds will cross the block. Leading the way is this late production Lamborghini Miura SV. Originally finished in red with a blue interior, it was equipped with the desirable split-sump lubrication system. Sold new to the United States, it was more recently restored by marque expert Gary Bobileff and awarded 'Best Lamborghini' at the 2015 Concorso Italiano. Chassis 4946 was consigned with no reserve and is estimated to sell for over €3.2 million. Also available is an icon of 1980s rallying in the form of this ex-Lancia Martini Racing Delta HF Integrale Group A. Campaigned by the factory team during the 1989 season, it scored two World Rally Championship victories. Chassis 458689 is now offered from a 25-year single ownership in its iconic, original livery. A very rare consignment is this Abarth 207A Boano Spider, which is one of just ten built. Although its early history is not known it has been owned by two great Abarth collectors Dr. Sergio Lugo and Fabrizio Violati. Following a spell in the Maranello Rosso museum, 011 is now offered by its long-term Dutch owner. |

2025-05-12: Rare Iso Grifo A3/C 'Stradale' and Maserati 6CM ...
Following the famous Ferrari 'palace revolt', chief engineer Giotto Bizzarrini joined forces with Italian industrialist Renzo Rivolta to create the Iso Grifo sports car. In spectacular A3/C trim, the Grifo featured a nearly centrally mounted small-block V8 engine and a low and wide riveted aluminium body that had been penned by Giorgietto Giugiaro. Only two dozen were built before Bizzarrini split with Rivolta and the cars were rebadged Bizzarrini 5300 GT. One of those very rare aluminium A3/Cs is this example that was reportedly first shown at the 1964 Paris Auto Salon. It was then owned by Tefal inventor Marc Grégoire, French artist Freddy J. Zimmer and then for nearly four decades by Marcel Petitjean. Now restored to its original champagne livery B 0212 was shown on the Fiskens stand at the 2025 Retromobile show.Due to cross the block at the inaugural Broad Arrow Auctions Villa d'Este sale is this storied Maserati 6CM. It started life as a works car and was raced to victory in the 1936 Nürburgring Eifelrennen by Count Carlo Felice Trossi. In subsequent ownership, it was raced into 1949 season. By that time, it had been fitted with a four-cylinder engine from a 4CM. Among the subsequent owners were noted collectors and historic racers like Ken Rudd, Joel E. Finn, Robin Lodge and Federico Buratti. Chassis 1531 has continued to race under the current ownership and notably scored a podium finish in the 2022 Monaco Historic Grand Prix. |
2025-05-09: Ferrari Friday with three iconic sports racers ...
Today we mark Ferrari Friday by highlighting three iconic sports racers from the company's competition history. The most famous of the trio is this 250 TR, which was sold new to American racer Ed Hugus. The pontoon-fendered example raced at Sebring and Le Mans in period and has rarely been seen in public during the last three decades. Chassis 0732TR was brought to the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed where Ferrari's 75th anniversary was celebrated.Another Testa Rossa featured today is this four-cylinder engined 500 TRC. It was raced extensively in period, including in the very last Mille Miglia. Recently re-restored while in the current ownership 0670MDTR starred at last year's Chantilly Arts & Elegance. An altogether more modern machine is this 333 SP. Powered by a Formula 1 derived five-valve V12 engine, the 333 SP remains one of the best sounding competition cars ever constructed. This particular example was the 30th of 41 built and was raced with great success in period by the JB (later JMB) team. Victories were scored at Brno, Donington and Magny Cours. It was demonstrated for the current owner at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed by Marino Franchitti. |

2025-05-06: Impressive Alfa Romeo collection headed for RM Monterey sale ...
Among the early consignments for the RM Sotheby's Monterey Sale is the spectacular Quadrifoglio Collection. Consisting of Alfa Romeos only, the headliner of the Italian stable is this 33/2 Daytona Coupe, which was the first example fitted with a 2.5-litre version of the V8 engine. It was a period works car and was also raced by the VDS team before a subsequent owner brought it to Angola. Still fitted with a 2.5-litre engine, it was eventually repatriated. Chassis 015 has been part of the Quadrifoglio Collection since 2012 and was raced at the 2017 Monterey Motorsports Reunion.A unique Alfa Romeo consigned is this Giulia TZ, which was sold new to the son of famous author Vladimir Nabokov. To clear his tall frame, this TZ became the only fitted with a double-bubble roof. Following its period racing career, 750061 entered the long-term ownership of the consignor in 1991. Also due to cross the block is this Giulietta SZ; one of only around 30 finished with the Kamm-style Coda Tronca. It is believed to be the first competition car backed by the Martini & Rossi spirits company and was fielded at Daytona and Sebring. Chassis 00200 has remained in the United States throughout its life and joined the current stable in 2016. |
