2025-08-28: Jaguar and Porsche sports racers headed for auction and Mercedes-Benz record breaker ...
Jaguar D-Type It will be a busy fall for the auction companies with auctions all across Europe scheduled for the coming months. The quickly expanding Broad Arrow Auctions will stage their first ever Zurich Auction on November 1st. An early consignment is this spectacular Jaguar D-Type. It is unusual in that it was never raced in period but instead used on the road. Chassis XKD 551 is now offered from a three-decade single ownership with a pre-sale estimate of CHF 5,250,000 - 6,250,000.
At the RM Sotheby's Munich Sale, scheduled for October 18th, this equally striking Porsche 906 will cross the block. It was delivered new to Racing Team Holland and was appropriately finished in bright orange. Raced with considerable success by successive owners through to 1971, it actually remained in dutch ownership until 2005. Restored to its original colours, chassis 906-146 is expected to find a new owner for €1.8 - €2.2 million.
Mercedes-Benz announced that the recently introduced Concept AMG GT XX has set a large number of long distance world records for electric cars. Utilising the pool of works drivers, including Formula 1 racer George Russell, the bright orange machine completed a startling 5,400 km in 24 hours and then went on to do the equivalent of a complete lap around the equator (40,075 km) in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and 07 seconds.
2025-08-25: 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed report and 220-shot gallery ...
2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed report and 220-shot gallery Now that the dust has settled, we have taken the time to take a detailed look at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Duke of Richmond and his talented team staged an unrivalled celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Formula 1 World Championship by bringing together a stunning selection of Grand Prix cars and many of the great drivers who competed in and won the World Championship. Among them were the likes of Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario Andretti, Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell, Jacques Villeneuve and Mika Häkkinen. Most of them were also reunited with their actual World Championship winning cars. Prost was back in the all-conquering McLaren MP4/4, which tied in with the celebration of the 60-year career of legendary engineer Gordon Murray. Several of his creations were also featured prominently on the Gerry Juddah sculpture placed in front of Goodwood House. Among the many other evocative moments were the reunion of Jackie Oliver with his 1974 Can-Am winning Shadow, Danny Sullivan back behind the wheel of the March 85C that he 'spun and won' at the 1985 Indy 500 and JJ Lehto returning to the driver's seat of the F1 GTR that he shared to score the McLaren's debut victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.
As always, our photographers were on hand to capture all the highlights throughout the four-day event. The result of their endeavours is this exclusive 220-shot gallery that serves to illustrate our comprehensive recap of the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
2025-08-21: Monterey round-up with Pebble winner and auction stars ...
Hispano Suiza H6C Tulip Wood Torpedo All eyes have been on the Monterey Peninsula for the annual Car Week packed with events and auctions. Now that the dust has settled a little, we take one final look back. The week culminated with the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where the coveted 'Best of Show' award was won by this remarkable Hispano Suiza H6C Tulip Wood Torpedo. This one-off creation was built over a century ago for French spirits heir André Dubonnet and featured a very light wooden bodywork held together by over 10,000 rivets. Cherished throughout its life, it was most recently restored by RM Restorations. The end result was so impressive that the Hispano Suiza H6C was the clear favourite from the moment it broke cover.
Grabbing headlines, as always, were the major auctions. Anglo-Canadian RM Sotheby's topped the week at their Monterey sale with the Tailor Made Ferrari SP3. Offered directly by the Italian manufacturer and with all proceeds benefiting the Ferrari Foundation, it sold for a staggering $26 million.
A close second was this Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Competizione Spyder that found a new owner for a world record price of $25.3 million at the Gooding Christie's Pebble Beach Auctions.
The Bonhams and Broad Arrow Auctions sales were both topped by recent hypercars; a $8.6 million Bugatti Divo and $5.2 million Maserati MC12 Stradale respectively.
2025-08-18: Limited production Gordon Murray Automotive models and more ...
Gordon Murray Automotive S1 LM At this weekend's The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, Gordon Murray Automtive Special Vehicles revealed two limited production T.50 derivatives that were both inspired by the racing success of the original McLaren F1 GTR. Only five examples will be built of the S1 LM, which is based on the T.50 but features an enlarged, 4.3-litre V12 engine and bespoke bodywork that closely resembles the F1 GTR. It was conceived together with a customer and four more were built as a reference to the five F1 GTRs that finished in the top ten at Le Mans in 1995. The S1 LM will have over 700 bhp and still weigh less than 1,000 kg.
Simultaneously, GMA SV also created the Le Mans GTR for 24 customers of London-based sports car dealer Joe Macari. He asked Gordon Murray what a modern GMA Le Mans racer would look like and the Le Mans GTR was the result. Underneath its distinct design sits a refined version of the T.50 chassis and drivetrain. Production is limited to 24 examples; one for each hour of the Le Mans race.
Among the other cars launched at 'The Quail' were a pair of of Corvette show cars; the CX Concept and the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo Concept. These were the Corvette show cars penned at the Detroit design centre for quite a few years and could offer further glimpses of the C8 successor. The CX is a purely electric vehicle, while the track oriented CX.R boasts a twin-turbo, two-litre V8 and three electric motors for a combined output of 2,000 bhp.
Also on hand at the luxurious Carmel Valley lodge were Acura and Cadillac, with the RSX Concept and Cadillac Elevated Velocity Crossover Concept.
2025-08-15: Few-off Lamborghini Fenomeno and Lexus Sport Concept ...
Lamborghini Fenomeno Earlier today, Lamborghini marked 20 years of the company's dedicated design department, Lamborghini Centro Stile, with the introduction of the 'few-off' Fenomeno. Based off the Revuelto, it is powered by the same hybrid drivetrain and features track-oriented suspension geometry, semi-slick tyres and a striking exterior design. The Fenomeno is named after a particularly brave bull that fought in Morelia, Mexico in 2002 and was aptly named phenomenal. In accordance with the 'few-off' description, production is limited to just 29 examples and all have, no doubt, been spoken for already.
Also showcased on the Monterey Peninsula today was the Lexus Sport Concept. It offers another glimpse of what we presume will be a new Lexus high performance sports car after the camouflaged GT Concept and GT Racing Concept were demonstrated at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last month. The information released is still very limited but the expectation is still that the car will be powered by a V8 engine and will form the basis of a new GT3 racing car.
2025-08-12: BMW, Ferrari and Porsche GT racers headed for Pebble Beach auctions ...
BMW M8 GTE For the flagship Pebble Beach Auctions the Anglo-American company Gooding Christies have consigned a trio of iconic recent GT racers.
The most successful is this BMW M8 GTE, which made a victorious debut at the 2020 Daytona 24 Hours. It was driven to a GTLM class win by the works BMW Motorsport team. It continued to be raced and scored a further six podium finishes. In late 2022, chassis 1809 was sold to a private collector. One of only very few works BMWs in private hands, it is estimated to find a new owner for over $1.75 million.
Although not actually raced in period, this Porsche 911 RSR did star in the 2019 Porsche x Coca Cola short, filmed on the streets of downtown Atlanta. It was part of the promotional campaign surrounding the iconic Bob Akin inspired Coca Cola livery used by a sister works car. The spare 911 RSR was sold shortly thereafter to a prominent collector and has seen minimal use. An ex-works car without the regular wear and tear of a racing career, Gooding Christie's specialists reckon it should sell for $3 - $5 million.
A relative bargain compared to the other two GT racers featured today is this Ferrari F430 GTC. Raced in period by Scott Sharp's Extreme Speed Motorsport, it scored a podium finish at Petit Le Mans at the end of the 2010 season. In more recent years, it was campaigned by its long-term private owner in historic events, highlighted by a win in the 2017 Historic Sebring 12 Hours. Chassis 2644 should sell for around $500,000 and in the right hands will be a front runner in the popular Peter Auto Endurance Racing Legends 2 series.
2025-08-08: New Porsche GT racers and one-off Bugatti Brouillard ...
Porsche 911 GT3 R After showcasing camouflaged prototypes during the last few months, German manufacturer Porsche has now revealed the full details of two new GT racers due to arrive at customers ahead of the start of the 2026 season. Vying for international championships and Le Mans class wins will be the 911 GT3 R, which is the company's top level GT racer based on the 992 II generation GT3 road car. Compared the previous iteration, it features improved aerodynamics with louvres on the front fenders, improved power and also detail changes like the addition of ceramic bearings. Effectively an 'Evo' package, the 992 II 911 GT3 R is available as a complete car or an upgrade package of which Porsche plan to produce around 60.
Also new for 2026 will be the 911 Cup, due to compete in the Porsche Cup and Super Cup championships around the world. In addition to the mechanical upgrades like a power hike, it is also the first 911 Cup car not to use the GT3 name. This was done to reflect that it is more closely to the regular production 911 and not the more hardcore GT3 on which the 'R' is based. The 911 Cup replaces the 992-generation 911 GT3 Cup of which a startling 1,130 examples have been built.
Earlier this week, we featured three limited production Bugattis, which may become a thing of the past as the French manufacturer may focus on one-offs in the future as part of the aptly named Solitaire programme. The first example is this Brouillard, which was derived from the Mistral and built to special order for a prominent Dutch collector. Joining a stable of over 30 modern and classic Bugattis, the Brouillard was named after Ettore Bugatti's favourite horse. One of the very last Bugattis powered by the quad-turbo W16 engine, it features bespoke exterior design and a custom interior. Bugatti will debut the Solitaire programme and the Brouillard during the Monterey car week.
2025-08-05: Three recent Bugatti hypercars headed for Bonhams Quail Lodge auction ...
Bugatti Divo For their flag-ship Quail Lodge Auction, Bonhams cars have consigned a trio of recent Bugattis that form part of a 30-strong hypercar collection that is offered at no reserve. The absolute headliner is this Bugatti Divo, which is a lighter, more focused version of the Chiron. Only 40 were produced and the consigned example has had just two owners from new that actually used the car. It is offered with 800 miles on the odometer and has a pre-sale estimate of $7 - $9 million.
Also due to cross the block are two subsequent limited production versions of the Chiron. Produced in 2021, the Chiron Pur Sport on offer is finished in a striking white with exposed carbon fibre and red accents. Like the Divo, it has seen regular use and at the time of cataloguing had covered close to 1,900 miles. The Pur Sport also has no reserve and should sell for around $4 million.
The most recent offering is the 1,600 hp Chiron Supersport of which Bugatti built just 30 examples. It is finished in an unusual dark green exposed carbon fibre and is expected to sell for $3.5 - $4.5 million.
