2026-01-30: News from the F1 shakedown, wild Genesis and new Continental GT S ...
Late yesterday afternoon, the highly anticipated Aston Martin AMR26 Honda finally broke cover. This was on the fourth day of the official five-day shake-down test. As can been surmised from the first images, Adrian Newey's latest creation is as radical as expected. Another new Grand Prix car that hit the track this week was the Alpine A526. In a profound change compared to the previous seasons, it is powered by a Mercedes-AMG F1 power unit instead of the in-house Renault unit that only rarely could match the success of the early V10 and V8 engines. The Bentley Continental GT line-up has been further expanded with the Continental GT S and the Continental GTC S. Like the other versions of the 2026 range, it is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine that is assisted by a powerful hybrid system. In this configuration, this drivetrain is capable of 670 bhp and 930 Nm of torque. Hyundai's luxury subsidiary Genesis launched this particularly wild X Skorpio Concept. Designed to traverse the desert, it is powered by a V8 internal combustion engine that delivers a staggering 1,100 bhp. Although the show car is fully functional and has been tested this week by Le Mans racer Andre Lotterer, the X Skorpio is unlikely to show up in the Genesis showroom any time soon. |
2026-01-26: All-new Donkervoort P24 RS and Red Bull Racing RB22 Ford ...
Dutch specialist sports car manufacturer Donkervoort has taken the wraps off the P24 RS. It combines a striking modern design with true analog underpinnings inspired by the cycle fender Donkervoorts of old. The chassis is a mix of steel tubular space frame and carbon fibre composite panels for additional rigidity. It is clothed in carbon-fibre bodywork, which can be fitted with a removable aero kit for track-days. Power comes from a bespoke twin-turbo V6 engine that has 'Power to Choose'; it can be configured to produce 400, 500 or 600 horsepower. This power is fed to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. In true Donkervoort spirit, there is no power steering and the ventilated disc brakes are not power assisted. Production of the P24 RS is limited to just 150 examples of which 50 have already been sold. The 2026 Formula 1 season has started in earnest today with the first day of a five-day test that is held behind closed doors in Barcelona. One of the new cars to hit the track this week is the Red Bull Racing RB22 Ford, which will be raced by Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar. Built to the heavily revised regulations, it is smaller and lighter than its predecessor and it is powered by a simplified power unit. For the first time, this has been created by Red Bull Powertrains in cooperation with Ford Motorsport. |

2026-01-23: New Mercedes F1 car on track and Ferraris headed for Retromobile auction ...
One of the first 2026 Formula 1 cars to hit the track is the Mercedes-AMG W17 E-Performance, which will be raced by Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. There has been a lot of talk of the German team having found a loophole in the new engine regulations that might give the 'Silver Arrows' an edge. The engineers found a way to increase the compression ratio on track to circumvent the limit set by the regulations. Judging from the first pictures, the W17 E-Performance also boasts some interesting aero solutions.Today, Ferrari also took the wraps off the new-for-2026 SF-26, due to be campaigned by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc in the upcoming Formula 1 World Championship. At the upcoming Gooding Christie's Retromobile sale, a fabulous selection of Ferraris will cross the block. Among them is this striking 250 GT SWB, which was originally finished in a very rare metallic red and was equipped with many Competizione features. From the same era is this 250 GT Lusso, which was originally acquired by Italian sculptor Renzo Pavanello. Another headliner is this highly original, two-owner from new 288 GTO. It is consigned to the auction from a single ownership of over 30 years. Finished in a particularly bright red is this Monza SP1. It was finished in this particular colour to match the 750 Monza already in the collection of the owner. Ready to once again hit the track are a FXX and a FXX K, which were both completed by the factory in Evoluzione specification. Ready for the Le Mans Classic Legend is this ex-Team Taisan 458 Italia GT2, which dominated the 2013 Asian Le Mans Series, winning its class during every single round. |
2026-01-19: New Formula 1 cars and auction-bound Bugattis ...
The exciting 2025 Formula 1 season finale is still a fresh memory but the attention has already turned to 2026 with the the all-new cars due to hit the track for the first time in a private test next week. Extensive rule changes to both the chassis and engine side of the cars should make for a very interesting season. Today, the Haas F1 team released the first renders of the VF-26 that will be raced by Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman. Late last week, Cadillac already gave the team's very first F1 car a shakedown at the Silverstone Circuit. Like the Haas, it is powered by the revised Ferrari power unit that now has a 50/50 split between the internal combustion engine and the hybrid side.During the upcoming auctions, two recent Bugattis are due to cross the block. At the Bonhams Scottsdale sale, this one-off Bugatti Chiron Super Sport will be offered. Known as the Éléphant Blanc, it was inspired by the elephant sculpture by Rembrandt Bugatti, which was used as the radiator mascot on the Bugatti Type 41 Royale. Actually used by its original owner, the Chiron Super Sport is estimated to sell for $4.5 - $5 million. One of the stars of next week's RM Sotheby's Paris Sale is this track-only Bugatti Bolide. Unlike the Chiron, this is a brand-new car with a mere 112 km on the odometer. The Anglo-Canadian auctioneers estimate chassis 037 should find a new owner for €4 - €6 million. |

2026-01-09: Michael Schumacher's first Grand Prix winner and updated Toyota hypercar ...
The great Michael Schumacher famously made his Formula 1 debut during the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix for Jordan and then returned the following year to score his very first victory in this very Benetton B192 Cosworth. A development of the Benetton B191 that Schumacher switched to after his sole outing for Jordan, the B192 was designed by Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn. A Grand Prix winner in 1992, the design further evolved into the world championship winning B194 of 1994. The 1992 Belgian Grand Prix winning B192 was retained by the team and then passed to Renault when the French manufacturer acquired Benetton in 2000. In 2015, it was sold to a French specialist, who returned the car to full running order. The next custodian retained chassis B192-05 for a decade but has now consigned it to the upcoming online only Broad Arrow Auction Global Icons sale. This hugely significant Grand Prix car is estimated to sell for in excess of €8.5 million later this month. It is all change for Toyota going into this FIA World Endurance Championship. For the first time since 2016, the team will be entered as Toyota Racing instead of Toyota Gazoo Racing. This change is also carried through with the revised TR010 Hybrid sports racer, which will replace the two-time Le Mans winning GR010. Compared to the outgoing model, it features heavily revised aerodynamics and to the joy of many enthusiasts, the TR010 Hybrid will sport a red livery that is reminiscent of the fabulous TS020. |
2026-01-06: Torre Loizaga museum visit ....
We kick off 2026 by wishing you the very best for the New Year and by pointing you to one of motoring's hidden gems; the Torre Loziaga Museum. Located in the picturesque Basque hills in Northern Spain, the museum is located just 30 minutes from the city of Bilbao with the Guggenheim museum as its main attraction. For Rolls-Royce enthusiasts in particular, the private collection displayed in the six buildings of the Torre Loziaga museum can rival the world famous museum for modern art. Famously boasting all six generations of the Rolls-Royce Phantom, the spectacular selection of cars was the fruit of the labour of one local businessman, the late Miguel de la Via. He spent his youth playing at the Torre Loziaga or Loziaga Tower and by the mid-1980s had amassed the means to acquire the estate and house his quickly growing stable of cars. Worth a visit even for those not interested in cars, the beautiful grounds also regularly host parties and weddings. The collection not only includes a wide range of Rolls-Royce models, it also includes several Hispano Suizas, Jaguars, a Ferrari Testarossa and the very Lamborghini Countach LP5000 that served as the pace car for the 1982 Monaco Grand Prix. The Torre Loizaga museum is open to the public on Sundays and holidays, and guided tours can be booked. |
